Wildlife Weekend
Well, I have yet to see an Easter Bunny this weekend, but there is time! After yesterday’s eagle we also saw squirrels and an owl; or at least that’s what we think we saw! Like the eagles, I’m not sure the squirrels are squirrels, they look a bit like chipmunks to me. They seem to be everywhere, but are quite shy. Getting this photo was as much luck as anything, usually as soon as they see you they run off. There were two of them, one was camera shy, but this one stood still just long enough. They do like to drink out of the container of water that the plant on the patio sits in, hardly surprising given the absence of rain in the past 3 months. I have also previously had one come in through an open window, it gave me a shock when I saw it, although it was more scared of me and ran out quickly.
Last night Jess and I were sat out on the roof terrace in the dark watching the world go by, drinking coffee and feeding the mosquitoes. We were sat there talking, when suddenly a large, white bird flew up and over the balcony railings and over our heads. It made me jump as I wasn’t expecting it, despite seeing what appeared to be a very large bat the previous night. At first I thought it was a pigeon, just really because of it’s colour. However, it’s flight was silent and far more graceful than a pigeon, and it was considerably larger. I know there are owls in Bangalore, you can sometimes hear them hooting at night (along with the traffic). I can only assume that this was an owl, as I can’t think of any other large, white, nocturnal birds that it could be.
